Miles Ritchie is an artist out of the Bay Area who works primarily with wood and acrylic paints. Born into a household already inhabited with hundreds of paintings made by his father, Matt Ritchie, Miles’ interest in artwork was instant and virtually unavoidable. The colorful images that lined the walls of his house quickly led to other fascinations in comic book artwork, cartoons, and movies. In the years following Miles would pay tribute to his pop culture icons through various artworks and creations, all leading to the Pop Ply Portraits series, relief portraits composed of hand cut and hand painted layers of plywood. This series of stylized likenesses will be featured in his upcoming two person show with Matt Ritchie, “Heads Up!”, at Recess Gallery. Miles Ritchie lives in Castro Valley with his family. He enjoys spending countless hours in his local comic shop, Crush Comics, as well as seeing as many movies as possible with his close friends and girlfriend, Raven.
